The National Trust calls Keene a "Currier & Ives Landscape come to life, where pristine local landmarks, Revolutionary War reenactments and bucolic rolling hills provide a perfect spot for family fun." Parenting Magazine's 10th Anniversary 1997 issue highlighted an article entitled "10 Great Places to Raise a Family" and chose Keene as one of those ten.
